The struggling gardener

Hey everyone!  I'm Shaylen and I'm member of this group brought on board for the "regular" people.  I'm a 21 newly married graduate of Northwest Missouri State University with a degree in Agricultural Business (let me stress the Business part....my agricultural knowledge is purely textbook-I leave all of that up to Aaron, my farmer husband).  Aaron and I (with our 8 month old chocolate lab, Lizzy) live on a farm between Clarinda and Shenandoah, Iowa.  We have beautiful trees, a beautiful view, and newly planted fields surrounding us.  It's heaven...until you look at my yard...

Weeds and bumble bees.

So if you're interested, you can join me in my "journey" to kill of the stick things suffocating the awkwardly located bush, figuring out a new plant to line our driveway  (the current being the bumble bee favorite), and bringing out more of the original beauty I'd like to imagine came with our house 100 years ago.

I should warn you.  I've never kept a plant alive for more than a few weeks.  I honestly think I have a black thumb rather than a green thumb.  Because of this, our vegetable garden is maintained by Aaron alone and I've only been allowed to run the planter once-just in case I would be a curse to the crop.   I had a Chia Pet a few months ago that I thought I would practice with.  It sprouted little baby leaves and then withered and died.  Two weeks.

I'm an optimistic person, however, and bought my first hanging plant last night and all I would need to do is maintain it.  I suggest this...if you're like me.  Maintaining shouldn't be so bad, right?

So that is the very beginning of my long journey.  Next time, I'll post some pictures of my yard so we can see the progress (there's that optimism again)...as well as my pretty hanging plant. :)

Until then...
